Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins

This was a stupid comedy. The basic plot was a guy who is successful as a way to get back for never being understood by his family. His parents are having a reunion for their 50th anniversary. Many hilarious things happen and Roscoe alienates his family and finally his son. In the end Roscoe dumps his snobby girlfriend and goes for the childhood crush and his family forgives him at the bug dinner.

This movie was funny but forgettable. The whole notion of using childhood trauma to overcome and become a successful entertainment icon is very overused. Also plays on specific stereotypes to gain laughs. It’s a good sit back and not think movie. The underlying subject of not gloating and not alienating people was very clear.

What did I take away from this movie? It’s entertainment. Funny, but still just a stupid movie.
