Whip It
This is a movie about girl power. It is about a girl named Bliss who is looking for rebellion from a mother who is pushing her into the world of beauty pagents. Bliss goes along with this because it is what she knows but does little things to rebel, like changing her hair color and the clothes she wears.
Bliss finds something she believes in and becomes engulfed in roller derby. It is something she feels deeply about the way her mothers feels for beauty pagents. That is the irony in the end when her parents finally find out she is involved in derby.
I liked the movie. It was very inspiring and fun. The characters were uplifting and there were many story lines going on at once but overall it was a story of a girl coming into her own an realizing she has her own dreams and that it is ok to do so. The dialogue was believable.
I really took one thing away from this movie and that is to be real with people and respect them enough to be yourself instead of lieing to them to make them feel happy. This is no good for everyone because you are cheating them out of knowing you. In the end if they don’t know you what is the point of being social in my opinion. We all go through that experience in life where we act a way the other person thinks we are to not let down their expectations of us. The fact that we assume what others think of us is illogical because we are really thinking of our opinions of what others think of us. In the end it is our own judgement of ourselves.
So in the end, be truthful and honest with ourselves and with everyone around us. They may not like you but others will definitely respect you. Respect means tons because that just means they accept you for you.
I definitely approve and in the end recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for a fun, uplifting, girl power story!!!
