So, of course we are three months or so into the year.. I am loosing steam when it comes to my resolutions. The one I have held onto the most is the one where I write about every movie I watch. I have held up and written about every movie, but the real question is are the writings worth anything? I am thinking I need to take it up a notch.
So, NEW RESOLUTION..
I will still write about every movie I watch.. It is going to start with a stream of consciousness on how I felt about the movie. Really anything and it doesn’t have to make sense. Then I am going to post it. Whether it is legible or not. I don’t care anymore. Next I am going to take everything I wrote for the month and put together a more concise view on a movie or a couple of movies I choose. This will be one post I take more time with and really delve into a certain point of the movie.
Hopefully from this I will not be so lazy with it and get so overwhelmed with a project I have no intention of doing anything with in the future anyways. I was hoping to get something out of this whole experience because I do spend alot of my time watching TV and movies. I figured if I was going to be living alone and spending my time doing this as entertainment to occupy myself instead of falling into depression then I might as well document it some how.
Another resolution I want to get into is to start formulating a new series I want to be writing. I think this is a good place to really explore a few characters and write about them in a way I won’t feel constrained to have to write a script of some sort. That maybe with this it will just formulate itself.
Finally, I am working on a portfolio. This will consist of 6 different types of makeup. I have decided to do a set on old movie monsters (frankenstein, dracula, the wolfman, etc.), zombies, burn victims/skin diseases, bleeding gashes, fake limbs/decapitations, and finally I will create a fake head and blow it up. I have started the zombie set already.
To make all of this work I am setting myself deadlines so I have something to work toward.
Res 1- Movie reviews, By the end of the month they have to all be posted and the big critique as well.
Res 2- This is going to be a daily occurance. Keeping up with a journal almost as you will, I will be creating twitters for the characters as well to get a more day to day feel to comprise together on here on a monthly basis as well.
Res 3- I would like the have the whole portfolio done by the end of June. I figure I could knock out a couple sets at a time to hopefully have a whole portfolio put together by then.
Looks and smells like a plan.. next up looking into film schools.. am I sure I want to do this?
Dark comedy about a guys son dieing and using his death to help himself. He writes a suicide note to keep people from knowing his dumb son dieing from masturbating.
After the suicide note the father wrote was published and started to effect people in a positive way, the father started to jump on the band wagon. The idea that his words were to be published and effect people in such a way was always his dream, regardless of it being from such a horrible start.
The idea that is posed in my mind is whether reaping the benefits off some horrible act is a human condition at all. It does happen. We tend to immortalize the dead and not look at their flaws. People tend to reap from these benefits.
Not the typical Adam Sandler movie. It was all about kids telling stories that come true. He tries to influence them to fit what he wants the outcome to be, but ultimately they take the story in their own directions. Toward the end Sandlers character is put in a position of turmoil looking in no direction that is good until he remembers the stories his fathe would tell him as a kid. Up until this point his character has never had a happy ending, but telling the stories with his niece and nephew reminded him that happy endings can happen in real life. So he takes matters into his own hands and saves the day.
This was a fun movie and had a very specific message. The idea that we should hav dreams and follow them. Not to have dreams that are unattainable, but if there is an opportunity to make your own destiny.
I would say it is worth watching and reliving what we all used to like in movies as a kid. Just some old fashioned fun story telling!
About a daughter and mother getting into a car accident. When they are both going into cardiac arrest the mother grabbed her daughter’s hand and when her daughter awoke the mothers dead soul was transferred into the body of her daughter, Sam.
The dynamic between the father and daughter is explored in such a weird way in this story. The father has to deal with the feelings he has for his wife but all he can see is his daughter. The wife has all the same urges as a teenager and keeps tempting her husband. The real issue of sexuality existing between a man and woman can be told even though it’s a daughter/father relationship.
He does start to get frustrated and makes me think that his confusion of his feelings for his lost wife and daughter are starting to get the better of him, although neither of them are there.
A very interesting look on how sometimes when we have faith in something it could change things even when there seems to be no solution and we have given up. We may not all be as lucky as Henry to have people force themselves in our lives, but if we just don’t shut people out we could make real connections to help us get what we all really want, to be understood.
Very musically driven. Teddy doesn’t see himself as on the same level as the patients.
Why is the holocaust such a topic to keep going back to for terrible filler to stories? Is it because it was a real event and there could not ever be something so terrible someone could imagine.
Paralleling that the Nazis are the same as us.
Rats flooding from the inside of the island. Signifying death?
We are all the same. The dispicable acts of our enemies are mirrors of our own darkness within
So after thinking it was one movie you are led to come to the conclusion of how they come to a breakthrough. This whole movie is teddys dellusipn and Teddy is really Andrew. An idea that has been used before. It wasn’t as huge of a surprise as they would want it to be. It might have actually been more of a twist to keep it with what was originally being set up. The idea that you know you are being setup for a twist has you asking the questions that lead you to not be surprised by tge ending but almost guessing it aside from a few details here and there.
I did like the movie. Thought it was well done and looked good. The actual twist and questionable part of the movie came at the end with this line,
What would be worse. To live as a monster or die as a good man?
Leaves you to ask if he wasn’t on purpose playing as if he had regressed again. The fact that his mind so badly wanted to erase his past would male his new solution of a labotomy a permanent change in reality you can’t break from. Shutter
Great 80’s movie about hacking and the government and kids just rebelling against authority. To anyone who has never seen this movie it is a gem from the past. Not exactly one of the brat pack movies like Breakfast Club or 16 Candles but does have Ally Sheedy in it.
Basic premise of the movie is about a computer hacking kid who is trying to break into a game companies system to play the newest game first. He ends up breaking into a military base and starts playing with the computer a war simulation game. The computer is programmed to go till someone wins. In the closing scene they set up a game of tic-tac-toe with the computer to play with itself to ‘learn’ that there is no winning move. The computer ultimately concludes that with the war game is the only winning move is to not start the game at all because in the end whoever throws the nuke still kills everything. I like that there is a real defined moral in this movie. It’s not just in cartoons and kids movies but the older movies of this time did have morals that were clearly stated. You really understood the message of the film and it didn’t have to be something you would wrack your brain over for days and weeks to understand. This is one of the movies I do find rewatchable but only to a point. There isn’t gems hidden in the story that you only understand with a second or third watch. It is meant to be followed as it is shown. Makes for a great Saturday morning movie. Not too much thought involved and plenty of unrealistic action to enjoy without getting too worked up about.
Overall I say see this movie. Enjoy it for it’s simplicity and the acting of some great actors in their young careers.
Post a artist and song that you sing out loud every time you hear it!!!
Tears For Fears- Head Over Heels
This is a silly movie starring Michael Cera as a awkward teenager looking for love. When he finds a girl while his family is on vacation he becomes obsessed to get back to her but is conviced he is not enough of a ‘man’ for her. He comes up with an alter ego named, Francois Dillinger. Francois is the kind of guy who says what’s on his mind, no matter how crass, and persists to get what he wants.
As the story unfolds he ends up destroying and blowing up a store in town and his mother’s car to get sent to his father’s and get closer to his love. This ends up falling apart when she is sent to a French boarding school. As he becomes more and more infused with Francois he sabotages her and getting her kicked out. They do end up together and finally he realizes that she cares for him for who he is, or does she really?
The dialogue in this movie is more real in the way we do speak with foul language and more to the point. Francois’ pick up lines are the cheesiest but work so well for the quirky story. I will say the point of the movie escapes me. It was such a memorable and moving movie as it was just such fun to watch. You get to see Cera spread his wings just a bit, although his original character is the same as ever.
Though the plot was lacking and the devices to move the story along were totally unrealistic, I would say it is worth seeing and laughing about since it will get your attention once Francois starts talking down to his counterpart to get him to fulfill his actual thoughts. (and the soundtrack was so perfect and makes it sooo much better)
